US Corn Acreage

At this point, it is highly unlikely U.S. corn acreage will reach USDA’s March planting intentions figure and there’s a strong chance plantings will come up significantly short due to extreme planting delays in eastern and northwestern parts of the Corn Belt, and severe flooding in the Delta and the southern Midwest.
As Seen in RICHARD BROCK's article in crop news weekly

About 1.3 million acres of corn remained unplanted in North Dakota by May 22. Rather than switching to soybeans or risking an immature corn crop, economics may favor crop insurance claims. AS Seen on DTN

Doin' More with Less

As seen in Farm Futures Magazine May/ June 2011

Farmers in Buchanan County and throughout the United States are doin' more with less!

This graph depicts how Nitrogen use has stayed pretty flat over the past 35 years, while corn production has nearly doubled per pound of Nitrogen basis. Click on the graph for a bigger view.

Our Reply: We think this will continue with the likes of variable rate application, nutrient management, and new technology that doesn't exist yet!
