Let's Find Out Together

You do not want to miss this year's event with the unusually dry weather pattern settled over Eastern Iowa. This will be your best chance of the summer to analyze multiple fields first-hand, quiz various local industry professionals about managing this crop, reminisce with seasoned farmers about the last major drought of 1988, and be uplifted by optimistic farmers who are excited about the future. Make plans to attend today, RSVP to 319-327-0806 to save your spot and inquire about the details.

4-H Achievements- Avery Hanaway

Avery with her Grandpa Chuck Mazur
Hi, saw on your blog that you want to post pics of 4-H kids achievements for fair this year.  Buchanan county's garden judging was this morning. Not sure if you are looking more for livestock photos, but my daughter REALLY wanted to submit pics of her garden that she's been working on, and when you're 9, a garden (even her little one) is hard work! She won't find out until next week what place she got, but she asked me to send the photos to you anyway.

Avery is 9 years old and is a mini member this year in the Jesup Clover Kids. This is her first year having a garden and she decided to plant a salsa garden.  Avery's Grandpa (Chuck Mazur) helped her build her raised bed (out of recycled wood) and guided her in the care of her crop. Attached are some pics Avery picked out to send and one of her garden being judged this morning.  Let us know if you post on the blog:)

New Crop Tour '12 Grower Host Added

Pete,

Saw the Crop Tour banner along the road. I'd like to host a stop on this year's crop tour again if that's alright. Plan on me helping out with the yield checks again this year too.

RICHARD CRAIN- Rowley, IA

Reply: Thanks for volunteering your field and for your interest in the crop tour again this year Richard. Give Richard a call and ask him about last year's inaugural crop tour if you're wondering wether or not it will be worthwhile, 319-938-2653.

Corn & Soybean Ratings

Weekly Crop Conditions Update

East Central Iowa: My heart goes out for those of you who know you are finished. I honestly can't put an estimate to what we may get. We had .8"-1.5" 6-29-12 here, but have had 95-100F temps up until Sunday and no rain in sight. Light spots are probably done and the rest looks ok early in the morning, rolling by 10 am.  I still have hope, but we will have to see how the corn will pollinate and if we can get any rain to stop the bleeding.
