Midwest Crop Tour Estimates Lower!

OMAHA (DTN) -- U.S. farmers will produce 12.484 billion bushels of corn in the 2011 crop with an average yield of 147.9 bushels per acre, according to agricultural advisory service Pro Farmer. The numbers are partly based on findings from the company's Midwest Crop Tour that finished Thursday evening in Austin, Minn. USDA's estimate for the 2011 corn crop in its August Supply and Demand report was 12.914 billion bushels with an average yield of 153.0 bpa.

Fear of falling yields sends prices higher

December corn closed sharply higher on the session and drove to new contract highs for 4 of the past five trading sessions, the CME Group said in its Friday afternoon report. Aggressive fund buying emerged into the mid-session. The market pushed lower early in the session led by weakness in equity and energy markets and ideas that the market is overbought and that US corn is priced higher than competition on the world feed grain market. Fears of declining yield and some better export news helped support a run higher to new contract highs.

After some choppy and lower trade early, November soybeans saw a major technical break-out to the upside and moved sharply higher on the day, the CME said. The rally pushed the market to new contract highs and nearby futures to near the May highs.

Dec Corn hits new contract high, Again, Soybeans up sharply

December corn closed sharply higher on the session and closed near the highs posting new contract highs for the second day in a row, the CME Group said in its Tuesday afternoon report. Wet weather moving into northern Illinois after hitting dry areas of Iowa/Minnesota overnight may have tempered the buying early.

November soybeans closed sharply higher on the session and pushed to as high as 1400 before closing near the highs. This is up as much as $1.18 in just 11 trading days. A positive tilt to outside markets and news of deteriorating crop conditions helped support the higher opening but better than expected rains for southern Minnesota and northern Iowa overnight helped spark a quick sell-off to near unchanged on the day early, the CME said.
