Funds Keep Buying

Funds were active buyers in corn contracts late yesterday, and the buying continued in the overnight session to drive the market up to the highest level since May 5, the CME Group said in its Wednesday morning report. Ideas that there could be less than expected corn planted area and lower than expected yields for the coming year is beginning to provide solid support to the corn market.

Cost of Money

According to The Kiplinger Letter, the Federal Reserve will soon move from a policy of easing to neutral and then to tightening the money supply.

Odds are, that process will raise short-term interest rates in early 2012.

Opening Calls

CORN: Corn futures are called 5 to 8 cents higher, Brugler Marketing said. Corn was down 4 cents for the week last week.
SOYBEANS: Soybean futures are expected to open mostly 1 to 4 cents higher, Brugler Marketing said. Beans were lower on Friday, but gained 12 cents for the week.
