Bullet Proof

Moe Russell of Russell Consulting Group outlined these comments at the conference:

-Have been cycles for the last 100 years
-Will continue to be due to fear and greed
-Strategy is to bullet proof your balance sheet during good times
-So you can catapult ahead of the competition in bad times
-If you get greedy during good times you will likely be on your knees in bad times

USDA Report

USDA raises corn ending-stocks 170 mil. bushel to 900 mil. bushels

Exports lowered 100 mil. bushel, 2011 estimated yield lowered approx. 3 bu/ac to 158 bu average yield, while total corn acreage left the same at 92.2 mil acres

Estimated 2011 season average price estimated at $6.00/bu

Sociological Implications

As a result of a changing rural population in Iowa, David Peters, ISU Asst. Professor of Sociology thinks...

You will see merging of city-county services through Joint Powers Agreements

and

Political representation in rural areas will be by Lobbyists, not Legislators

A Couple of thoughts...

A couple of thoughts from Alan Barkema of the Federal Reserve Bank in KC...

"This period of record profitability in agriculture could continue for sometime due to the population and income growth in emerging markets"

"It's almost impossible to determine how much of the run up in land values is driven by supply/ demand fundamentals and how much is a result of the monetary policy combination of artifically low interest rates and excess liquidity (cash) supplied by the federal reserve"
