Weekly Crop Update Clarification

Sorry if my last update sounded contradictory, I meant to say we aren’t hurting as bad as some in the corn belt for moisture, but it would not be turned down. The good corn is looking a little better as it grows, it covers up the compromised stands. The marginal and bad corn is looking worse. Beans seem to be waiting to take off... Prior GDU Post Feedback

Where did you get your information for the growing degree days?  I was surprised by those numbers so I looked on the GDU calculator on the Pioneer website for Independence and found some different numbers.

https://www.pioneer.com/home/site/us/agronomy/tools/gdu/

We might have used different starting dates or something, that’s what I was wondering.  The link above should get you to the website, not sure if my numbers will be on there but I used April 1st and April 15th.

The blog just piqued my curiosity!

Pete,
Just wasting time reading this article my wife showed me about you and Rudolphi.  Quite interesting, reminds me of sitting around the frat arguing about stupid s***.  Keep in touch, living back in Iowa in Atlantic.

Crop Tour 2012

Weekly Crop Conditions Update

East Central Iowa: This has to be the strangest year I can remember. Beans seem to be at a stand still. Corn is all over the board. Drive from one field to the next, and you go from good to terrible right across the fence/or across road. Planting dates, crop rotation, weed control and /or tillage practices(including no-till) seem to have played a major role in our variability, but I personally can't put my finger on why things are so variable. We are not hurting for rain, but could definitely use it. Finishing 2nd crop hay, so far yields are ok.
