Race Insight From AJ McLaughlin
14 horses in today's running of The Preakness. Two sons of former Kentucky Derby winners; Norman Asbjornson (Real Quiet, 1998) and Concealed Identity (Smarty Jones, 2004) go off from post 2 and 13. Look for the winner to be one that ran at Churchill Downs two Saturdays ago. Five such horses will break from the chute at 5:16 central time. (Shackleford, Midnight Interlude, Mucho Macho Man, Dialed In, and Animal Kingdom, with AK coming from post 11)

Fill up the tank with Chardonnay
The Royal wedding on April 29 was watched by millions. Following the ceremony,the newly titled Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were seen driving a Seychelles Blue DB6 MKII Volante Aston Martin.
But what “common” folk may not have known is that the car was running on wine. The car’s engine was retrofitted to allow it to run on E85 bioethanol fuel refi ned from surplus grapes grown in a vineyard owned by the Royal Family. It gets only about 10 miles per gallon or roughly 4 1/2 bottles of Chardonnay.
Doing the math...if a grower gets $200 per ton for a 10-ton crop, that is $2,000 per acre. That same 10-ton crop would conservatively generate 160 gallons per ton or 1,600 gallons per acre. At $4 per gallon the grower would make $4,400 more per acre for grapes for bioethanol than for wine or concentrate.

Lean Hog futures are called 10 to 30 cents higher this morning, Brugler Marketing said.
June hogs traded down to their lowest levels since Dec. 22, but by late morning they had bounced 155 points off the lows. While many in the market may be concerned that domestic demand is slipping, it is important to note that cash pork prices have recently traded up to all-time highs!
